Kristian Derek Ball

Since 1995, Kristian Derek Ball has been a Sound Artist, Designer and Engineer. His artistic works and International collaborations span 5 continents. The collaborative project Fire Arms #4 has been both distributed nationally and internationally, and holds a permanent place in the Franklin Furnace Archive (a division of Multi-Media Art of the Museum of Modern Art New York). Some of his work includes, a residency in Hong Kong where he produced theatrical and artistic sound design, Chinese Classical music recordings and lectured on music and recording history. He was also fortunate to be invited to consult for the Shanghai Conservatory’s first International Electro-acoustic Music Festival in 2006. ). His exhibit “Not Wanting to Hear Anything About John Cage”, an environmental sound installation was recently on exhibit at the Lehigh University Art Gallery. Leonardo Music Journal (MIT Press) has recently published his article: Soundscape as Interface: The Threshold Project. He earned his MFA (2007) in Theatrical Sound Design/Music Production at the University of Missouri Kansas City and a BFA (1999) from the Kansas City Art Institute where he studied Sound Art for Performance, Film and Installation. He was the Director of Sound and Head of Recording for the Tony Award winning The Children’s Theatre Company, and is currently the professor of Sound Design and Technology for the Department of Theatre at Lehigh University and Audio Coordinator at Zoellner Arts Center. He resides in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania with his wife and two sons.
