James Wyness
Edinburgh — United Kingdom
Composer, field recordist, archivist, researcher. My current practice converges on the concept of the Listening Environment. Listening Environments exist as dynamic fields of possibility, appearing in different guises at all stages of the creative process, from work in the field to the final presentation of new work.
Description of work with field recording
58 Processions - collaborative work documenting in sound aspects of Seville's Semana Santa processions. The Borders Archive - a personal digital archive of recorded sounds which focuses on the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland, a region rich in both human and natural history. 'Sketches Here, Sketches There' - a collaborative research and field recording project with Portuguese artist Luís Antero and Borders based artist/researcher Kate Foster. Working in our respective countries of Portugal and Scotland, Luís and I will be recording at specific broadleaf forest locations both day and night across four seasons.
