Welcome to Sounds of Europe, a platform for field recording. The blog of the website will travel to a different European country every month where a local organisation or artist will be responsible for maintaining it. Each country´s particular context and practices with regards to field recording will be explored and presented in a personal way.

Pauwel De Buck is a sound artist living in Ghent, I last met him at his performance at the Field Fest. Pauwel is
making installations as well as playing performances, his background is in visual arts, not in music as the the natural musicality of his compositions might suggest.

We meet at the café of the Vooruit Art Center and talk about his discovery and approach to field recording, his piece ‘Klingspor’ which he performed at Field Fest,  the possible importance of a reality behind field recordings, music and sound ecology. In the end Pauwel decides to think it over and record the answers to my questions at home – while washing the dishes.
